HyperText Markup Language, or HTML, is the universal language of the World Wide Web. Every time you visit a website, the site’s web server sends HTML to your browser, which then renders it as the web page you see on your screen. Because this process is universal, anyone who works with web technologies— which these days means virtually all developers, designers, and even many managers—can benefit from knowing the basics of what HTML is and how it works.
